Moline Creative Workshops -- the Gateway Drug to Drawing

Creativity as a Practice Group
It can be difficult to sustain a creative practice in the best of times – and it can feel impossible during these topsy turvy times.  Join a small group of artists for a five-week facilitated exploration of creativity.  Drawing inspiration from Julia Cameron, Eric Maisel, David Kelly, and Elizabeth Gilbert, we will talk, draw, write and play through our creative blocks.  Writers, painters, illustrators, sculptors, musicians, poets, and makers of all types are welcome!
  • 5 weeks in February 2021 - Register online a The Drawing Studio in Tucson, AZ
ENV599: Science Storytelling (Northern Arizona University)
Learn to give more engaging multimedia scientific presentations through storytelling. Graduate students (and undergraduates with instructor permission) from science-oriented disciplines get practice using compelling narratives and simple visuals to communicate complex scientific ideas.  This class meets continuing education requirements for K-12 teachers.  Spring 2020, Fall 2020.  ENV599.  1 credit.
Visual Communication
Improve your ability to communicate with students, colleagues, clients, and collaborators by learning the fundamentals of visual communication. Draw out your ideas using mind maps, visual templates, and easy-to-draw icons during this workshop.

Visual Journaling
Generate ideas, solve problems, and explore your feelings with a visual journal.  This journaling process is based on a visual note-taking technique that allows you to slow down your thinking and map the connections between your thoughts with doodles (or quick sketches), keywords, frames, and flair.  This visual process allows you to have a creative conversation with yourself that can lead to spontaneous insights.   Please note that this class takes place online via Zoom.

Deep Dive into Visual Journaling
Visual journaling allows you to generate ideas, explore your feelings, and slow your thinking in order to have deep personal insights. Expand your visual note-taking skills and broaden your visual journaling practice during this 6-week deep dive into visual journaling. This community of practice will meet weekly to explore new visual journaling techniques, share our work, and discuss what is emerging for us.  Pre-requisites: Visual Journaling or Note-taking
  • Six Sunday evenings in October & November 2020 - Register online at The Drawing Studio in Tucson, AZ
Visual Storytelling
The average PowerPoint slide has 75 words on it, yet an audience can only take in about 10 words per slide. Don't overwhelm your audience! Learn how to use simple visuals to support, rather than detract from, multi-media presentations.
Visual Meetings for Non-Profit Leaders
Live, interactive visual methods invite everyone on your nonprofit team to (literally) be on the same page, while also inviting creativity and play into your meetings.  This workshop introduces you to three basic templates that you can use with your team to connect with the people that you serve, collaborate better as a team, and draw your strategic vision.
Visual Note-Taking
Visual note-taking will help you listen closely to lectures, presentations, and conversations by teaching you to capture big ideas and map the flow of information.  These notes are more beautiful and emotionally-engaging than written notes, so they are a better memory and communication tool.  Learn a simple process to create visual notes using doodles (or quick sketches), keywords, and connectors to organize and record complex conversations. @ 5:00 - 8:00 pm - Register online at The Drawing Studio in Tucson, AZ

Visual Thinking & Communication for Scientists
