Why visual notes?  Let us show you!

Moline Creative works as a scribe-on-the-side to help you see your ideas by mapping the flow of conversation during meetings.  Angie Moline, Ph.D. organizes and draws key points made by speakers, ideas generated by teams, and captures conversations live during virtual events.

FAQ: How can I benefit from visual note-taking?

  • Engage participants at meetings and conferences.
  • Make meetings more interesting, effective and memorable.
  • Summarize multiple sources of information into a synthesis.
  • Develop a creative and informative visual abstract for a scientific paper.
  • Create a memorable take-home summary from live events.
  • Build a common understanding among stakeholders with diverse interests.
  • Anchor the information in participant's brains - visual information "sticks" in human brains better than text.
  • Set your events apart from others.
  • Create a buzz about an event on social media by posting photos of visual notes with a unique hashtag. #sketchyourscience #molinecreative  #aeegya2018
  • Check how a presentation "lands" because a speaker can look at visual notes after speaking to a group and see if her key points emerged as themes in the drawings.
    • Note: This is especially helpful for technical presentations! Fellow scientists, I am talking to you. :)
  • Increase global happiness! There is joy in doodling!
Q: How does visual note-taking (a.k.a. graphic recording) differ from graphic facilitation?
A: Good question!  Many visual practitioners use the terms graphic recording and graphic facilitation interchangeably.  At Moline Creative visual note-taking differs from graphic facilitation in that the note-taker typically does not have a strong hand in the meeting design, rather she shows up ready to listen and draw!
Q:  Why should we hire you instead of someone else to take live visual notes?
A:  People hire me because they like me!
They either like my personality or my drawing style or appreciate that we have shared values.  People also hire me because I am NOT trained as an artist.  Many artists and graphic designers do this work - and their work is very beautiful - but sometimes they don't capture key points or synthesize important information. My clients tell me that while they like my drawings, they hire me for my listening skills.  Finally, many of my clients hire me  because of my background in science, engineering, sustainability, and education.  Clients also hire me because I am happy to teach a workshop or engage the audience through a keynote presentation during your event.
Q: How should we set up the room for visual note-taking?
A: It depends, but this page illustrates several common setups.
